So, what is MCT?

MCT stands for Medium-Chain Triglycerides. MCT is a little confusing at first because it is basically coconut oil. The difference is chemistry.

Coconut oil is made by pressing out the oil which is 92% saturated fat. Yes, that’s pretty high considering beef has less fat than that. MCT makes up about 65% of the coconut oil and is considered the good oil in coconut oil because of its “Medium Chain” (hence the name). The remaining oil is what we can go without because it is considered LCT (Long Chain Triglycerides).

The size of the chains are super important and is the reason why we are obsessed with MCT oil. It’s why it can quickly be converted into energy.

Are All MCT Oils The Same?

Absolutely not!

There are a few types of MCTs. You have C6, C8, C10 and C12 (WHAT!?)

C8 (shorter chains) is what you want to look for when choosing your MCT oil. Most MCT oils on the market are made up of mostly C12 (longer chains) or a blend of all 4. C12 is processed like a fatty acid so it will not immediately turn into ketones.

You want to find an oil that is pure C8. This bypasses the digestive system and goes straight to the liver where it is turned into fat-burning ketones. And it raises ketones 4 times more than C12.

So in a nutshell, you only want the C8 because it has a shorter chain and it will process and turned into energy quickly. I found a product that does just that!

Good Fats vs Bad Fats and where does MCT oil fall

Before we get deeper into MCT Oil, let’s talk about fat. When we hear the word “Fat” we automatically think of weight gain and health related issues. While that could be true if we consume the wrong fats, our bodies actually need it to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The key is knowing what fats are good and what fats are bad so we can add the right one to our diet.

Bad Fats

Bad fats aka Saturated or Artificial Trans Fats are considered bad and should really be consumed sparingly. These are the fats that can raise cholesterol, clog arteries and have other negative effects on your health.

Bad fats are found in animal products and foods that are packaged, fried and even the sad truth…microwave popcorn.

Good Fats

Unsaturated fats are the good fats. These fats can help reduce the risk of heart disease and can help lower cholesterol and are found in foods like avocados, fish, nuts and seeds.

MCT Oil is considered a saturated fat but because of how it is processed. However, it actually acts as an unsaturated fat because of it’s medium chain.

When MCT is consumed, it goes straight from the gut into the liver. Then your body uses it as a source of energy or ketones. Ketones are produced when the liver breaks down fats and uses it for brain energy.

Other saturated fats can’t do this. It takes longer for them to get through the gut and is eventually absorbed as fat in your body because it has longer chains.

The shorter the chain the easier it should be to absorb and use the fat for energy.

That right there is the key to MCT’s success… the way it’s processed in the body and it is able to process the way it does because of its medium links.

That’s why the Keto Diet is an effective way to lose weight. It’s bases are to eat low carbs and high fats where the body turns fats into keytones and uses it as energy.

I’m sure by now you have figured out that this article will support MCT oil 100% and it should be added to everyone’s diet daily.

MCT Benefits:

Weight loss, Energy and Endurance

One of the amazing things about MCT oil is that it can only be used as energy. It CAN NOT be stored as fat…EVER! This is good news for fat burning purposes.

When MCT oil is consumed, it can either be used immediately as an energy source or it gets released out of the body if energy isn’t being used so it doesn’t stay in the body. Because of this immediate surge of increased energy, it is great to take before your workout.

MCT Oil is a great fuel for athletes or anyone who needs a boost of energy throughout the day.

Studies show that people who take MCT Oil workout longer and have more endurance. It also increases metabolic function therefor resulting in weight loss.

MCT oil also suppresses your appetite and can be used as a hunger replacement. It sends a signal to your brain telling it that you are full. People who take it prior to eating will eat fewer calories a day.

Improves Memory, Focus and Neurological Health

MCT oil has been called “rocket fuel for your brain” for a reason. Since your brain can not store its own energy, it needs a constant reboost of energy.

That’s where MCT kicks in.

Again, because of the way the body immediately processes MCT, it’s available to be that energy source the brain needs. You can almost instantly feel your brain turn on.

It’s also scientifically proven to help with autism, seizures, Alzheimer’s and other neurological conditions. This also has to do with the way MCT oil is processed and raises ketones. Your brain health loves when this happens.

Anyone here ever experience brain fog? ME! I personally get major brain fog at times. I would get so frustrated. MCT oil totally helps you focus and keeps your brain fog free.

If there was one thing I would recommend as an outside energy source, it would be MCT oil.

Prevents Heart Disease and High Blood Pressure

MCT oil has been proven to increase HDL and lower your LDL.

This will result in the prevention of heart related issues.

“Choosing the right types of dietary fats to consume is one of the most important factors in reducing the risk of developing heart disease.

Tufts University researcher Alice Lichtenstein DSc.

How do I take MCT Oil

Since MCT is an oil, you can use it a few ways. You can cook with it like you would other cooking oils, use it on your salad or other veggies.

It’s also beneficial to add it to your sports drink or water when you’re working out.

You can add it to your protein shake or favorite smoothie in the morning.

Many people make bulletproof coffee in the morning.

All you do is:

  • Brew your coffee
  • Add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 1 -2 teaspoons of MCT oil and
  • Blend it-preferably with a frothier

This makes an amazing coffee guaranteed to kick start your day with energy and clarity.

With all of the benifits, it’s a no-brainer why we should add this too our diet.

Just start with 1-2 teaspoons a day for a few days then move up to 2-3 tablespoons a day.

There is a such thing as too much at one time. Nothing dangerous but could be unpleasant side effects like stomach cramps or diarrhea. If you experience these symptoms, try reducing the amount of mct oil.
