I have to be honest and let you know that this article was going to go in a different direction. It was going to give you “5 Tips From The Healthiest Man In The World” so you can also live like him but as I started my research process (and becoming fascinated with this man), I have figured out his secret!

I still love the ideas of the initial blog post so I am defiantly going to keep that on my content calendar!

However, before I even share those 5 tips with you, this one thing I have discovered is a MUST and needs to be done first.

You can’t have success if this one thing isn’t in place and that’s why Milind Soman IS the healthiest person in the world. THAT’S CRAZY! Just think about that sentence… #LIFEGOALS

Before I get to the “big reveal”, I want to introduce you to Milind Soman.

Who is Milind Soman?

Milind Soman is 55 years old and has lived in India most of his life. He is married to 29-year-old Ankita Konwar. Together they spend most of their time traveling, running, hiking, and a number of other outdoor activities.

When I say Milind Soman loves sports and the outdoors, I mean he lives for it. He has completed Ironman challenges triathlons, won the silver medal in the South Asian Games as a swimmer just to name a few examples. But he does it because he loves it and it brings him joy.

He loves running barefoot. In 2017, he completed an Ultrathon which covers a distance of 520km in 3 days and involved swimming, cycling, and running on his bare feet. Why does he do it?

“Barefoot running is also a part of exploring your mind, your body. I’ve been running for about 8 or 9 years. So, when you’re interested in something and you know something gives you value, you always try to make it better and better,”

How does Milind Soman make his money?

Milind Soman went to college and received his diploma in Electrical Engineering but has made a career out of being a model, producer, and actor.

In 1988, he started his modeling career and quickly became the most sought-after male model in India in the ’90s.

In 1995, he was featured in Alisha Chinai‘s music video, Made in India that really helped launch his career. He took acting roles in a couple of TV series which led him to focus on acting (both English and Foreign films) from that point on.

In 2010, he had a role in an Amazon Prime movie and he also was a contestant on Fear Factor where he came in 4th place.

Milind Soman 55th Birthday

When you google search “Milind Soman” right now, you are going to see a controversy that happened on November 4th, 2020. Umm, he may have gotten into a little trouble and arrested…

It was his 55th birthday and we were only celebrating as the healthiest man in the world would…

He took a nude picture and video of himself running on the beach and posted the picture on Instagram with a caption saying “Happy Birthday to me 55 and running!”

Alright fine! I will show you…

You can’t see anything (in this picture) but good for him!

Two days after his birthday, he was arrested and charged with obscenity for his epic naked run on the local beach.

Milind Soman’s Fitness Routine

Obviously, by now we can see that Milind Soman is a huge fitness enthusiast, to say the least, so he must have a strict workout regimen and be in the gym every day.

His fitness routine is this…

He doesn’t have one.

“I don’t run every day, I run 3-4 times a week. The other days of the week I do nothing. I don’t believe in any kind of ritual or routine or anything like that. What I do believe is that you need to be active all the time. I was a national swimming champion from the age of 9, and I swam till I was 23. Then from the age of 23 to 38, I did nothing. I did no sport, no game, no exercise. But my weight has been the same from the age of 19 till today,”

Milind Soman – Hindustan Times in an interview.

He doesn’t even go to a gym! WHAT!?

He believes in more holistic fitness. He does what comes naturally to him. He wakes up and looks for ways to stay active and engage his body and mind.

In other articles, he mentions looking for stairs to climb, constantly challenging yourself to do 10 more than last time, finding random places to plank, do burpees (umm no thanks!), and running with his wife. These are some great ways to work out throughout the day while you are going from point A to point B.

He doesn’t sit for long periods of time. He mostly stands and walks around. He believes that shoes and chairs are the worst inventions ever. I can see his point.

In other words, don’t be lazy. Get up and move around.

Milind Soman smoked cigarettes for 10 years

Believe it or not, Soman use to smoke cigarettes, A LOT! He started smoking when he was an actor at the age of 28. He would smoke around 36 cigarettes a day before he decided to quit just before he turned 40.

His addiction to nicotine didn’t stop instantly. It took him 2 years to quit. He used a “little trick” he played on himself whenever he felt the urge coming on.

“I used procrastination, which is what everybody does really well. So, it’s always best to use something that you do well,” he said and further explained, “When you feel like smoking right now, you tell yourself – no, I can wait for ten minutes.”

“And that urge actually passes, and even if it doesn’t, you push it again by another ten minutes. It’s much tougher to say I’m not going to smoke at all today than to say I won’t smoke for the next ten minutes,” Milind explained.

He hasn’t had a cigarette in 18 years and he credits his technique of procrastination. If you are struggling with this battle, give this a shot. It wouldn’t hurt. This is a big step towards optimal health and wellness.

What does Milind Soman eat?

This is a question that is highly searched for on the internet. So many people want to know “what the healthiest person in the world eats daily”. It’s a great question.

Isn’t that what we are supposed to do? Find someone who is crushing it and do exactly what they do?

I personally expected to see a long list of unattainable and unsustainable options and recipes that a working mom of 3 can’t keep up with.

Milind Soman eats very simply and eats whatever he wants but focuses on portion control.

He says away from non-vegetarian foods that are hard to digest and sugar. He also doesn’t consume packaged or over-processed foods and doesn’t consume foods that contain chemicals.

If he has a sweet tooth, he uses honey or jaggery.

I did read that he eats insects as a form of protein but this is actually very common in India so that’s not very exciting journalism but it’s still good to know!

He eats his last meal by 7:30 pm and is in bed by 11 pm.

Here is a sample of what he eats in a day:

Breakfast: Fruit only! Such as whole papaya (sometimes 2) half a watermelon, 5-6 mangoes, many bananas, muesli and dry fruits if still hungry

Lunch: Simple meal, rice, vegetables, and dal

Dinner: Same as lunch

He enjoys home-cooked meals rather than eating out at a restaurant. Even when he travels, he likes to stay in Airbnb so he has access to a full kitchen so he can cook healthy meals for himself and his wife.

What’s Milind Soman Secret already!

I’m not trying to downplay Soman’s diet, fitness routine, or lifestyle by any means because he is defiantly deserving of his title but he sounds like a regular guy who is trying to live an “Optimized Life and live his healthiest and best life possible” to me!

However, there is still that one thing we haven’t discussed that I feel he dominates and this is what makes him capable of even being

It’s what makes him able to play “little tricks” with himself and stop smoking after 10 years of addiction.

It’s what makes him able to eat insects and stay away from foods that he knows aren’t good for him while focusing on eating foods that will give his body what he needs. He doesn’t even take any supplements! ZERO! NONE! That’s because he is intentional about everything he consumes.

It’s what makes him able to run and Ultrathon barefoot.

Yes, and even celebrate his 55th birthday running naked down a beach.

I say all of the above for a reason.

MINDSET!!!!

“Fitter mind, healthier body! A fit mind is more positive, open to new ideas, tolerant, understanding, patient, and empathetic.

Milind Soman

He is a huge advocate for training your mind to be fit. Those words can’t be any truer. They are speaking to my soul!

The “little tricks” he plays on himself are all a part of having a healthy mindset.

It’s never too late to start and that is what he shares with his audience.

I am celebrating my 40th birthday next month. Each year that passes makes me want to be healthier than I was the previous year. I recently started running. I run about 3 miles daily. I would like to increase that and I will.

Soman started running when he was 38 years old so it was later in life for him as well.

Soman feels your health journey should be more than just physical. It starts with believing in yourself and having a positive attitude and knowing WHY you are doing something.

MINDSET FIRST!

He can’t do any of the above if his mindset isn’t where it is. He defiantly can’t be the healthiest man in the world without having the mindset he has.

You can’t be successful in your health and wellness journey if you are just looking to jump in a lose a few pounds. You have to have the mindset first because it’s going to take hard work and dedication. You are going to have to keep yourself motivated when there isn’t anyone there to do it for you.

You will get discouraged and fail.

There are times I don’t want to go for a run. It’s cold outside or I have other things to do. But I do and I’m so glad I did. I have to talk myself into it and tell myself why I need to.

He makes a great point we can all learn from when starting to live an Optimized Life and I will end with this:

He says to “start slow while paying close attention to how your mind and body respond then move forward”. Whatever exercise you chose to do such as yoga, running, biking, hiking, etc, use it first and foremost to make your mind strong. Mental health comes first and is the hardest part. Physical health will follow.
