Plant-based protein just got a little better! Many people are choosing plant-based protein because of their nutrients, ingredients, and taste. They also add clean protein to our diet. Plant-based protein is simply a protein that doesn’t come from animal products. Currently and historically, popular vegan protein comes from peas, soy, or rice.

We are happy to announce… hemp to this list!

What is hemp protein?

Hemp protein is not brand new to the plant-based protein scene but it hasn’t made its debut until now.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking “hemp has protein”? YES! ABSOLUTELY!

There are many reasons why hemp protein is about to blow up!

Also, hemp is considered a complete protein because unlike some of the other plant-based proteins, it contains all nine of the essential amino acids and is high in clean protein.

It also contains fiber, vitamins, minerals along with healthy fats.

Hemp protein is also easily digested. This is important because a lot of plant proteins are not. When choosing hemp protein, make sure it has been cold-pressed. This will ensure the highest quality and easiest to digest.

Let’s discuss the “elephant in the room”.

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Before you think we are trying to suggest any illegal activities, I want to make sure you know the difference between hemp and marijuana because the two are often mistaken.

A lot of people associate hemp with marijuana because they come from the same plant family. As of 2018, it is now legal to grow hemp in the united states to grow hemp.

The word “hemp” is used to classify cannabis that contains less than 0.3% THC.

“Marijuana” is used to classify cannabis that contains more than 0.3% THC.

THC is the deciding factor when it comes down to the difference between the two. It is a chemical that is responsible for psychological effects. So the higher the THC is in the plant, the more it could to get you high.

It is hard to tell the plants apart because they look so similar.

Hemp is harvested to make many resources we use daily such as food, rope, clothing, paper, housing material, just to name a few. And now… a plant-based protein source! Hemp itself has been around for a really long time. It’s even said to be the “first crop ever cultivated by mankind”.

So, to be clear, the purpose of drinking hemp protein isn’t to ease anxiety or stress. This is not a CBD product. This is intended as a new and improved plant-based complete protein option.

  2. Super interesting! My trainer wants me eating up to 190g of protein a day so this can definitely help. Thanks for differentiating between hemp and marijuana!
