When it comes to trash and plastic, the bathroom is the second most wasteful place in your home. Kitchens are the first. That’s because bathroom products are intentionally designed in an easy disposable plastic wasteful package. Just think about all of the different plastic containers, wrappers, and little things you are constantly using and throwing out. Plastic waste is a huge problem for our world. That why I have personally started looking for ways around my house to be a Zero Waste home. If we all found a few small products we could swap out and use products that are eco-friendly and plastic-free, we could make a really big difference in our community.

In this blog, I want to focus on our bathroom. I want to show you a few small changes you can make to reduce trash and plastic waste. We also have a blog on going zero waste in your kitchen. That is a great one to read if you are wanting to make some changes there.

#1 Bite Toothpaste Tablets

One of my favorite products is toothpaste tablets by Bite! No more messy plastic tube. These come in a glass bottle. They are made with vegan-friendly ingredients and naturally flavored. You can get them in fresh mint or berry flavor.

They also have a bamboo toothbrush with bamboo and charcoal-infused bristles. Don’t worry, they are soft!

#2 Reel TP

Toilet paper is a product we all need making it so wasteful. I bet you are afraid I’m about to tell you to use washable and reusable TP cloths… NOPE! Reel makes their TP out of 100% bamboo. WHAT!? That’s actually a great idea when it comes to sustainability and zero waste. Bamboo grows without having to be replanted. It does this over and over again. And bamboo uses 30% less water and gives off over 35% more oxygen than trees typically used to make TP. Each roll is 3 ply, biodegradable, soft and comes with 300 sheets. They do not contain any dyes or ink.

You can get a box of 24 rolls of this bamboo TP for $20 plus free shipping with their auto-ship option with the link below. They are giving $10 off for our Optimized Life community. What I love about this company is for every roll purchased, they donate a single-use biodegradable toilet to someone in need. Shopping for a purpose. I LOVE THAT SO MUCH! I am all for doing business with small companies that give back.

#3 Earth Sider Zero-Waste Reusable Swabs

Hear me out on this one. I love cleaning my ears. I’m sure most of us do because almost 2 billion cotton swabs are discarded each day and that’s just in the US alone. Americans sure do like clean ears! That’s why this is a great little product.

They are made from all-natural silica sand. They come with a couple of different swabs. One is for cleaning your ears and the other for makeup, art projects or whatever else you would normally use a cotton swab for. They are easy to clean. Just run them under warm water and they are good to reuse.

#4 Biodegradable Zero Waste Corn Floss

VEGAN DENTAL FLOSS! I’m sure you all know the importance of flossing your teeth. I’m going to tell you anyway since my background is in the dental health field. When we eat, we get food on our teeth and in between them. Brushing only gets food off of your teeth. Floss slides between your teeth and removes any food or bacteria that’s sitting there hanging out. If you don’t floss that stuff out, you WILL get cavities. Okay, I’m done with dental hygiene 101.

This floss is made from non-abrasive corn so its great for people who have sensitive gums. It comes in a little glass bottle with the cutest little turtle on it. Again, this is another example of a small change in making a big difference. Regular floss is made up of waxed nylon, rolled up inside of a small plastic box. Both plastic and nylon derive from crude oil. Is that something you want going into your mouth?

Each brush has a different cleaning capability. One oval scrubbing brush, dish washer, pot scrubber, vegetable brush, and a bottle brush. You can split them up and use some in your kitchen.

If you cant make the shift by purchasing items like these, there are a few things you can do at home to use what you already have.

  • Use glass jars to store things in.
  • Make your own conditioner by using apple cider vinegar with a few drops of tea tree oil.

Get creative and think of things you use often and find a way to make it or replace it with a zero-waste option.

We would love to hear from you! What is your favorite zero-waste bathroom product you use?

  1. There are some quality products in this zero waste bathroom product list! I recently purchased toothpaste tablets for my daughter because she doesn’t like toothpaste, but it certainly is WAY LESS waste plus I don’t have to argue with her to brush her teeth anymore. It really is a win-win!
